3.1L Engine: Installation

NOTE: If generator brace is removed, studs must be retightened before installation or damage to the brace may result.
  1. Generator bracket.
  2. Bracket bolt.

    Tighten 

    • Bracket bolt/screw to 50 N.m (37 lb. ft.).

  3. Generator and wiring harness clip to generator bracket with pivot bolt/screw and nut. (Do not tighten at this time).
  4. Battery positive lead and nut to generator output ("BAT") terminal.

    Tighten 

    • Nut to 8 N.m (71 lb. in.).

  5. Generator front brace to engine and to generator with rear brace nut and generator bolt/screw. (Do not tighten at this time).
  6. Generator rear brace to engine and to generator with rear brace nut and rear brace stud.

    Tighten 

    • Generator (Pivot) bolt/screw to 50 N.m (37 lb. ft.).
    • Generator bolt/screw to 25 N.m (18 lb. ft.).
    • Brace nuts to 25 N.m (18 lb. ft.).
    • Brace stud to 25 N.m (18 lb. ft.).

    IMPORTANT: Make sure that tightening brace bolt does not bind generator.
  7. Drive belt. Refer to DRIVE BELT ROUTING .
  8. Electrical connector to generator.
  9. Battery negative cable at battery.

    Tighten 

    • Battery cable bolt to 15 N.m (11 lb. ft.).
