Security Lamp Operation: Notes

The PASSKey(R) system controls the SECURITY indicator lamp in parallel to the Universal Theft Deterrent System. In normal operation, the PASSKey(R) module controls the lamp only when the ignition is ON. Similarly, the Universal Theft Deterrent System module controls the indicator only when the ignition is OFF. The 4 bulb control modes for the PASSKey(R) system are:

• Bulb Check 
• Bulb Stays Illuminated And Engine Starts 
• Bulb Stays Illuminated And Engine Does Not Start 
• Bulb Never Illuminates And Engine Does Not Start 

Other modes such as blown fuses, loose ground circuits or burned out bulbs will affect the bulb operation in other manners and should be diagnosed. See TEST A: PASSKEY(R) DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SYSTEM TESTS.
