Universal Theft Deterrent System: Notes

The Universal Theft Deterrent option (UA6) is available on this vehicle. The theft deterrent system operates separate from the Personal Automotive Security System (PASSKey(R)) which is standard equipment on the vehicle. The system is designed to provide a warning in the event of forced entry through the doors. When a forced entry is attempted, the alarm warning system will trip, causing the horn to sound intermittently and the exterior lights to flash in unison for approximately 3 minutes. See Fig 1 . A starter interlock feature is included in the PASSKey(R) system. The Universal Theft Deterrent system does not affect engine starting.

The alarm is tripped by closing switches strategically located in the door jambs and the door lock cylinders. See Figure . When a door cylinder is violated by rotating it or moving it in and out, or if a door is opened without using the key, the alarm will be activated by the controller.
