Abs/TCS Functional Check

NOTE: ABS/TCS fault codes may also be referred to as ABS Diagnostic Trouble Co0des (DTCs)
  1. Turn ignition switch to ON position. If ANTI-LOCK indicator light illuminates for 2-4 seconds, go to next step. If indicator does not illuminate as described, go to PRE-DIAGNOSTIC INSPECTION  .
  2. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Release parking brake. Wait 5 seconds and observe BRAKE and ANTI-LOCK indicator lights. If only BRAKE indicator light illuminates, see BRAKE INDICATOR LIGHT ON ALL THE TIME under SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS  . If neither indicator light is illuminated, only ANTI-LOCK indicator light is illuminated, or both indicator lights are illuminated, go to next step.
  3. Connect GM Tech 1 scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located under left side of instrument panel, right of steering column. Enter ABS diagnostic mode. If any current ABS Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) exist, go to ABS/TCS FAULT CODES  table under DIAGNOSIS. If diagnostic mode cannot be entered, go to SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS  under DIAGNOSIS. If no DTCs exist or only history DTCs exist, go to next step.
  4. Road test vehicle at greater than 20 MPH. If ANTI-LOCK indicator light does not illuminate, go to next step. If ANTI-LOCK indicator light illuminates, check for any ABS DTCs. If any current DTCs are stored, go to ABS/TCS FAULT CODES  table. If no DTCs exist, go to INTERMITTENTS  .
  5. If vehicle exhibit any symptoms relating to possible ABS malfunction, go to SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS  under SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS. If no symptoms exist, enter ABS diagnostic mode and check for any stored ABS history DTCs. If no DTCs are stored, problem is intermittent and system is operating properly at this time. See INTERMITTENTS  . If any ABS DTCs exist, go to ABS/TCS FAULT CODES  table. Perform appropriate test procedures.
