Chart C5 - Electronic Spark Control (ESC): Notes

NOTE: Test numbers refer to test numbers on diagnostic chart.

With engine idling, there should not be a knock signal present.
Tapping on the engine lift hook bracket should simulate a knock signal to determine if the sensor is capable of detecting detonation. If no knock is detected, knock on engine block closer to sensor.
If engine has an internal problem which is creating knock, sensor may be responding to this internal failure.
This step determines if the sensor is faulty or if the ESC portion of the MEM-CAL is faulty. Be sure MEM-CAL is properly installed.
