Compensator Assembly

The compensator assembly maintains temperature setting of control panel by regulating amount of vacuum to vacuum motor. This is accomplished by venting engine vacuum. Ambient air is forced into the compensator assembly of programmer by the blower motor. Inside the compensator this air is split. Part of this air is forced through an aluminum compensator tube in the upper portion of compensator assembly (see Fig 1). The other part of ambient air is forced through the lower portion of compensator assembly where a venturi effect draws in car air over the ambient air tube and a bimetal sensor coil. The sensor coil applies force against a rubber diaphragm that regulates vacuum supply to vacuum motor. Bimetal sensor coil is also attached to temperature lever on control panel and thus can be regulated manually.
