Tune-Up Notes Changes, Cautions, Corrections: Notes
- 1967 BUICK 400", 430" ENGINES HEAD GASKET PRODUCTION CHANGE CAUTION: Some 400" and 430" engines have steel head gaskets (.020" thick); and some have head gaskets of steel and composition material (.045" thick). Be sure to install same type and thickness gasket as removed to maintain compression ratio.
- 1967 BUICK V8 ENGINES SPARK PLUG WIRE ROUT ING CAUTION: To prevent cross-firing, be sure to install No. 7 wire in top notches of wire clips, and install No. 5 wire in lowest notches of wire clips, then install No. 1 and No. 3 wires (install No. 3 wire above No. 1).
- 1967 CARTER AFB CARBURETOR STUMBLE ON LIGHT ACCELERATION CORRECTION: Stumble, sag, or hesitation on light acceleration (not on heavy acceleration) may be caused by lost motion in accelerator pump linkage. To correct, install a solid pump plunger assembly (without vent ball).
- 1967 ALTERNATOR WARNING LIGHT REMAINING ON CORRECTION: if alternator light burns brightly with engine running, or with ignition ON and engine NOT running, alternator light burns half bright and oil light does not burn, instrument cluster fuse may be blown. To correct, replace fuse.
HAZARD WARNING FLASHER CAUTION: If brake pedal is depressed while hazard flasher is operating, both front and rear lights will stop flashing and burn steadily until brake pedal is released. This is normal operation, and should not be taken as an indication that anything is wrong. Hazard flashers are intended to be used only when the car is parked.
SLOW IDLE. OR "CREEP" CORRECTION: Slow idle or "creep" may be caused by poorly adjusted idle stator switch at carburetor. Switch must be closed at idle. Test by removing switch connector with engine idling. Switch should open and idle speed decrease. If not adjust switch.
NOTE:
For other items affecting Tune-Up, see Diagnosis, Testing & Trouble Shooting at rear of book and appropriate carburetor story in CARBURETION section.
