Installing the electromechanical steering gear
NOTE:
RISK OF DAMAGE
Damage to the track rods or the electromechanical steering gear .
Holding the electromechanical steering gear by the track rods can damage the track rods or the electromechanical steering gear .
Damage to the track rods or the electromechanical steering gear .
Holding the electromechanical steering gear by the track rods can damage the track rods or the electromechanical steering gear .
- Hold the electromechanical steering gear only by its housing.
- In order to feed in the electromechanical steering gear (2)
, twist the rack (1)
with the torsion bar (3)
manually to the left by one revolution.
- In order to avoid damages, cover the front subframe (1) with a cloth.
- Position the electromechanical steering gear (2) with the right side in the arrow direction (A) .
- Feed the electromechanical steering gear (2)
in the arrow direction (B)
onto the front subframe.
- Use the special tool 2 472 903
or 5 A47 6E6
for tightening the screws.
- Position electromechanical steering gear (1) on the front subframe.
- Replace screws (2)

- Screw in screws (2)
several turns by hand.
- Tighten the screws of the electromechanical steering gear in the marked sequence from (1)
to (4)
.
Be sure to follow the tightening sequence!

Replace screws.
The tightening sequence must strictly be followed and carried out on all screws at the same time!
1: left front 2: right rear 3: right front 4: rear leftTightening torque 25 Nm Unscrew all bolts max. 90° Tightening torque 100 Nm Angle of rotation 90° NOTE: TECHNICAL INFORMATION
The universal joint can be mounted only in one position.
The universal joint and the steering gear or the steering shaft at the bottom are encoded to one another.
The clamping bolt must be positioned in the groove of the steering gear or the steering shaft. - Clean the screw threads to remove all remnants of screw lock agent.
- Slide the lower steering shaft (2) onto the steering gear in the arrow direction.
- Replace the clamping bolt (1)

- Tighten the clamping bolt (1) .
TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATION
