Replacing the electromechanical steering gear
NOTE:
The following step (s) must be performed if the listed component (s) is/are installed.
- Loosen screws (1) .
- Remove the heat shield (2) .
- Position heat shield (2) on the new electromechanical steering gear.
- Tighten the screws (1) .
TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATION

Remount the left and right hand tie rod ends .
NOTE:
Perform the steps on the left and right side.
- Determine dimension (A) to simplify the following toe adjustment on the front axle.
- Slacken the screw (1) on the previous electromechanical steering gear.
- Unscrew the tie rod end from the previous electromechanical steering gear.NOTE: If necessary, hold the tie rod with an open-end wrench for counter support.
- Screw the tie rod end onto the tie rod on the new electromechanical steering gear up to dimension (A), which was determined before removal.NOTE: If necessary, hold the tie rod with an open-end wrench for counter support.
- Tighten down screw (1) .
