Ground lights
Depending on the series the ground lighting has been integrated e.g. in the outer door handle or exterior mirror.
The ground lighting is intended to locate the motor vehicle and to light up the surrounding area of the doors before opening, for instance to see puddles at an early stage. For example, the ground lighting employs a fibre-optic conductor directed vertically downwards.
The Body Domain Controller (BDC) supplies the ground lighting. It switches on after having unlocked the door using the remote control or also after having opened the door and switches off after a maximum of 20 seconds after having closed the door.
Once the ground lights are activated, it can be deactivated again with the status "Terminal 15 on".
The ground lights are controlled by a process analogous to that employed for the interior lighting.
