Traffic jam assistant: Notes

The Traffic Jam Assist supports the users with longitudinal guidance (accelerating, braking) and lateral guidance (steering) of the vehicle within the low speed range in the road categories approved for this purpose.

NOTE: The speed range was changed effective 07/2014: The Traffic Jam Assist supports the user during longitudinal guidance and lateral guidance of the vehicle in the low speed range up to a maximum speed of 60 km/h (currently a maximum speed of 40 km/h).

In addition to regulating distance and speed, the assistant also keeps the vehicle in the center of the lane by means of comfortable, corrective steering actions.

The longitudinal control is based on a slightly adapted active cruise control with Stop & Go function. For the lateral control, which is active at the same time, functions of the camera-based driver support systems (KAFAS) are used.

Due to local regulations in force, the functions are only available for the road categories for which they are approved (e.g. only on motorways). In order to enable detection of the road category, the traffic jam assistant function can only be used in conjunction with a navigation system.

If the traffic jam assistant is activated, the pedestrian protection switches on automatically.
