BDC Body Domain Controller

The Body Domain Controller (BDC) is the master control unit for the interior light. That means: All the lighting functions are controlled by the Body Domain Controller (BDC).

The Body Domain Controller (BDC) receives many input signals that lead to the switching on of the interior lights.

The central gateway module (ZGM) is integrated into the Body Domain Controller (BDC). It is seen as a control unit within the control unit, as the central gateway module (ZGM) acts as a self-sufficient control unit within the Body Domain Controller (BDC).

The task of the central gateway module (ZGM) is to connect all bus systems. This combination allows general use of information from the individual bus systems.

All Body Domain Controllers (BDC) outputs for the interior lighting are pulse-width-modulated. This ensures that the brightness level of the interior lighting remains constant even when the electrical vehicle voltage fluctuates. Pulse width modulated signals are also employed to dim the interior lighting. For instance, the Body Domain Controller (BDC) supplies the footwell lighting, door entry light and ground lighting with power. It is not possible to dim the brightness for the function indicator light.

The Body Domain Controller (BDC) additionally monitors the door contact states. The status of the door contacts changes when a door is opened. The Body Domain Controller (BDC) detects the change in status of the door contact and switches on the interior lighting.

The Body Domain Controller (BDC) is activated using the following signals:

The Body Domain Controller (BDC) has the following functions for the interior lighting:
