41 00... Sectional Repair With And Without Reinforcement Plate For Carbon Parts
In the case of a sectional repair, a body component is cut at a point described in the repair instructions.
A reinforcement plate is bonded in to ensure sufficient strength.
The only exception is the sectional repair on the A-pillar in the area of the windscreen (I01). No reinforcement plate is required there.
Observe notes on REPAIR STAGE 2 .
Preparation of the reinforcement plates
Grind the reinforcement plates (1) so that they are metallically bright in the adhesive area.
Clean the adhesive area with cleaning agent R1 and allow to dry.
Apply a uniform thin coating of ADHESIVE K1 TO THE ADHESIVE AREA (layer thickness max. 0.5 mm).
Allow the adhesive to harden.
Observe SAFETY INFORMATION for handling magnets.
Wear safety goggles and gloves.
Preparation of the magnets
In the case of already used magnets, check for damage to the adhesive tape before use.
Remove any adhering dirt particles if necessary.
Fabric adhesive tape (width 30 mm) must be stuck onto new magnets.
Cut off approx. 20 cm fabric adhesive tape (1).
Bond magnet (2) onto adhesive tape (1).
Wind adhesive tape around magnet (2) so that a retaining tab (3) is produced.
The retaining tab (3) facilitates positioning and removal of the magnets from the component.
Preparation of the joint at the separating cut
Mask the carbon surfaces on the left and right of the joint at a distance a over a width b.
Dimension a = 5-10 mm
Dimension b = 50-60 mm
Mask the carbon surfaces on the left and right of the joint with adhesive tape (1).
No cavities must be left along the joint edge into which adhesive can penetrate.
Evenly apply adhesive K2 (1) to the reinforcement plates (2).
Position reinforcement plate (1) on the vehicle.
Secure reinforcement plate (1) with magnets (2) to prevent it from slipping.
To ensure that the adhesive tape can be removed later, the magnets (2) must not be positioned in area (3).
Position another reinforcement plate (1) if necessary and secure with magnets (2) to prevent it from slipping.
Position the new part (1) on the vehicle and secure with clamps.
Secure reinforcement plates with the magnets (2) to prevent them from slipping.
Remove excess adhesive (3) that has emerged with a spatula flush to the component surface.
Fill up with adhesive any areas where there is insufficient adhesive.
Carefully pull of adhesive tapes on the left and right of the joint (1).
Reworking of the joint is no longer possible as from this point.
Remove magnets (2) only after complete hardening of the adhesive.
Remove adhesive tapes (3).
