41 00... Removing Thermoplastic Components
- General information WARNING: Draw off vapor and gases!
Use personal protective clothing/equipment.IMPORTANT: The use of INFRARED EMITTERS is not permitted!
Using infrared emitters, even inboard carbon components can be damaged due to the very high temperatures. - Removing thermoplastic components
Refer to the individual repair instructions for the position of the adhesive areas.
If the parts are large, it might be necessary to carry out this operation with a second person assisting.
Heat adhesive flange in an area of 10 x 10 cm max. with a hot air blower. Carefully peel off thermoplastic component.
Use a spatula on the rear trim panel.
Use pliers for reinforcements in the side sill or deformation elements.
IMPORTANT: Avoid overheating. Separation always has to take place between thermoplastic component and adhesive. Allow area to cool down to room temperature and start over, if necessary. Delamination may occur on the intact carbon component if heated too much.
Do not damage adjacent components. Check temperature of adjacent components with a thermometer. At carbon components the temperature may not exceed 120 °C for a maximum of 5 minutes!
