41 00... Check Of Life Module (Carbon)
The Life module primarily consists of carbon components.
The carrier supports of wheel arch consist of aluminium cast parts. The seat cross members consist of aluminium extruded profiles.
For the aluminium components deployed in the Life module please refer to the notes in CHECK OF DRIVE MODULE .
Carbon components are checked for damages by means of optical testing (visual inspection).
For optical testing, strip adjoining components in cases of doubt.
- Breakage
Breakage can be detected at exposed fibres and disruptions.
Components must be replaced if showing signs of breakage.
- Delamination cracking
Delamination cracking describes the separation of multiple layers.
In the case of delamination cracking, the relative component must be replaced.
- Scratches
Perform the FOLLOWING STEPS to assess scratches.
- Disruptions at the edge of the component (around the rear trim panel)
Minor damages are permitted on the rear side of the lower adhesive flange (inside the carbon component) of the rear trim panel.
Disruptions not exceeding 20 mm in width (y direction) and 5 mm in height (z direction) are not a damage. The relative component must not be replaced.
- Following optical impairments are not a damage:
Visible white threads at the surface.
The white threads are used for fixation of the carbon fibre inside the fabric only. They have no impact on the strength of the component.
- When damages are present on components that cannot be replaced separately, the bodyshell must be replaced.
This applies to the bulkhead and the vehicle floor.
