Brief component description: Inverter

The inverter in the electrical machine electronics is used as control electronics for the electrical machine that powers the vehicle. The task of the inverter is to convert the direct current voltage of the high-voltage battery (up to approx. 400 V) into a three-phased AC voltage for the activation of the electrical machine. Conversely, if the electrical machine is in alternator operation, the inverter converts the three-phased AC voltage of the electrical machine into direct current voltage. This way, the generated direct current voltage can charge the high-voltage battery. This process takes place during brake energy regeneration. For both of these operating mode a bidirectional inverter is necessary, that can be both, inverter and rectifier.
