Tailgate/tailgate lock

The tailgate lock is equipped with the familiar rotary striker and locking pawl. The tailgate lock can be unlocked mechanically or electrically and then opened.

If the vehicle is equipped with an Automatic Soft Close system motor for the tailgate, the tailgate only needs to be pressed down lightly into the tailgate lock to close it. This starts the electric motor and the tailgate closes fully.

NOTE: Alarm activation when the tailgate lock is unlocked with the integrated key (depending on model series)

If the vehicle is equipped with an alarm system (DWA), an alarm is triggered when the tailgate lock is mechanically unlocked using the integrated key (integrated in the infrared remote key or in the ID sensor). Precondition: Vehicle locked and secured via the central locking system.

The tailgate lock can also be electrically unlocked via the operating points (e.g. ID transmitter, inner tailgate button, outer tailgate button) and then opened.

The lock barrel is mechanically connected with the tailgate lock via a Bowden cable (depending on model series). If the integrated key is inserted into the lock barrel and then turned, the tailgate lock is mechanically unlocked and the tailgate opens.

The tailgate lock is electrically unlocked via the operating points. The Body Domain Controller (BDC) activates the direct current motor of the release drive in the tailgate lock, thereby triggering the tailgate lock to unlock.

When the tailgate opens, the luggage compartment lights are switched on by the rotary striker switch. The change in status of the rotary striker switch is also evaluated for the alarm system (DWA).
