Adjusting Tailgate
Attention:
Do not damage adjoining body components.
Minor corrections through straightening work are permitted if the existing range of adjustments are not sufficient.
Read contents of BODY, GENERAL .
Observe GAP DIMENSIONS, BODY .
The tailgate must be provided with all attachment parts for correct adjustment.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove rear spoiler; refer to REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING REAR SPOILER .
Check holder (1) left and right for damage, replace if necessary.
Graphic representation similar.
Slacken screws (1) on both sides as long as the tailgate can still be moved.
Adjust tailgate laterally and longitudinally.
NOTE:
When the tailgate is closed, the striker must not bump or scrape against the tailgate lock. If necessary, remove striker; refer to REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING STRIKER FOR TAILGATE LOCK
.
When adjusting height of tailgate:
- Lower headlining in vehicle; refer to REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING HEADLINING (VERSION WITH SLIDE/TILT SUNROOF) .
- Slacken off nuts (1) on both sides of vehicle and adjust tailgate.
Tightening torque; refer to TAILGATE .
After Installation note:
- Tighten all nuts to the specified torque; refer to TAILGATE .
- Installing the striker if necessary; refer to REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING STRIKER FOR TAILGATE LOCK .
- Adjusting the tailgate catch if necessary; refer to ADJUSTING REAR LID LOCK .
- Adjust stop pad; refer to ADJUSTING/REPLACING BUMP STOPS .
- Touch up unpainted surfaces in the appropriate color.
