Adjusting Bonnet
Read contents of BODY, GENERAL .
The gap dimensions specified serve as the basis for the adjusting procedure; refer to GAP DIMENSIONS, BODY .
Minor corrections through straightening work are permitted if the existing range of adjustments are not sufficient.
Make unpainted surfaces visible by also moving the hinges. Touch these up in the appropriate color.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
Vehicles with active pedestrian protection only: Clamp off battery earth lead; refer to DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING BATTERY EARTH LEAD .
The stop screw is preset and must not be used to adjust the engine compartment lid.
Slacken nuts (1) of hinges on left and right.
Tightening torque: refer to ENGINE COMPARTMENT LID .
Adjust engine compartment lid laterally and in longitudinal direction.
Strikers must snap into place in engine compartment lid catch.
Height adjustment at hinge:
Slacken screws (1) and adjust engine compartment lid.
Tightening torque: refer to ENGINE COMPARTMENT LID .
Height adjustment at strikers:
Set the height by twisting the nut (1).
Adjust stop pad; refer to ADJUSTING/REPLACING BUMP STOPS .
Incorrect adjustment results in either wobbling of the bonnet or sluggish unlocking.
Attention!
Check function of retaining hook.
After Installation note:
- Tighten all screws and nuts to specified torque.
- Touch up unpainted surfaces in the appropriate color.
- If necessary, adjust front side panels.
