61 35 278 Remove/install Body Domain Controller (BDC)
Necessary preliminary work:
- Refer to CLAMPING OFF BATTERY LEAD FROM NEGATIVE CONNECTION POINT
- Refer to REMOVING INSTRUMENT PANEL TRIM, BOTTOM LEFT
- Refer to REMOVING FOOTWELL SIDE TRIM PANEL ON A-PILLAR ON RIGHT
- If necessary, fold away the carpet slightly to one side in the area of the BDC
Removal:
Attention!
Risk of damage to positive battery cable connector!
Unlock the positive battery cable connector:
- Loosen lock (1) in direction of arrow.
- Unfasten catch (2) on positive battery lead connector (3).
- Remove positive battery lead connector (3) in direction of arrow.
Unlock and disconnect all connectors (1) in marked area.
Attention!
Risk of damage: protect instrument panel trim in working area against damage!
Release latch mechanisms and carefully feed out control unit BDC (2) sideways from holder.
Installation:
Attention!
Risk of damage: protect instrument panel trim in working area against damage!
Feed control unit BDC (2) carefully into holder from the side.
Connect all connectors (1) in marked area.
Attention!
Risk of damage to positive battery cable connector!
Lock positive battery cable connector:
- Join positive battery cable connector (1) in direction of arrow in the BDC (4).
- Latch mechanism (2) on positive battery cable connector (1) must lock.
- Lock (3) in direction of arrow.
Required follow-up work:
- Refer to INSTALLING FOOTWELL SIDE TRIM PANEL ON A-PILLAR ON RIGHT
- Refer to INSTALLING BOTTOM RIGHT INSTRUMENT PANEL TRIM
- Refer to CONNECTING BATTERY CABLE NEGATIVE TERMINAL
- If necessary, return the carpet in the area of the BDC
Initialize the component protection (F48):
After renewal of the BDC or after installation of a used head unit, the component protection in the head unit must be initialized once again.
For this purpose, the following steps must be carried out:
- Request enabling code from Technical Support.
- Re-initialize component protection using diagnosis system and the following immediate measure:
- Vehicle handling
- Software update
- Additional software
- Initialization of head unit (HU) component protection
