VDP PROGRAMMING ABORTS

TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN

Reference Number(s): SI B37 01 16, Date of Issue:  September 2016
BMW: G12 (7 Series)
GROUP: Special Suspension Systems

SITUATION

The system may abort while programming the Vertical Dynamic Platform (VDP) control unit.

CAUSE

VDP control unit software

CORRECTION

Program with ISTA/P 3.58.0 (I level S15A-16-03-502) or a more recent version.

A part exchange does not provide a remedy and is therefore not necessary.

PROCEDURE

Always connect a BMW approved battery charger / power supply  (SI B04 23 10 ).

Attention: Upon occurrence of programming abort in the VDP control unit, the control unit connector on the VDP control unit must be unplugged for at least 5 minutes.

  1. Perform diagnosis with the latest version of ISTA.
NOTE: The following fault memory entries can be ignored:

S0407 "No communication with the VDP"

    S0619 "Programming abort VDP"

  2. Program and encode the complete vehicle using ISTA/P 3.58.0 (I level S15A-16-03-502) or higher.

Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.

For information on programming and coding with ISTA/P, refer to CenterNet / TIS / Technical Documentation / Diagnostics and Programming / Programming Documentation.
