Functional description
New: BMW Night Vision has an integrated person recognition system. Symbols are displayed in the central information display. The display of a symbol in the Head-Up Display (HUD) is also available. The Night Vision camera is not a control unit. Because the Night Vision camera is essentially a military device, special measures are required for safety reasons.
- Entry of a special enabling code
- If a component is faulty or the vehicle is damaged, the Night Vision camera must be returned to the system supplier.

The night vision electronics (NVE) are installed on the support tube for the dashboard. The control unit has three processors for person recognition and communication within the vehicle electrical system.
The night vision electronics search for objects in the form of persons in the delivered image. It determines their position and distance. A symbol is displayed in the central information display (CID). The warning range ahead of the vehicle is determined based on the driving speed and steering angle.
BMW Night Vision can be switched on and off at the assist systems operating facility.
