SUBJECT
Check Control Message Displayed for Variable Damper Control (VDC)
SITUATION
Check Control message: "Driving comfort restricted, continue driving at a moderate speed, and have it checked by your BMW Center". Check Control ID 180 active for variable damper control (VDC).
CAUSE
The VDC control unit detects that the wheel acceleration sensor is faulty (fault code memory entry: Value implausible).
Possible fault code memory entry:
- 482943 - Wheel acceleration sensor - front left - sensor 1 - - value - implausible
- 482947 - Wheel acceleration sensor - front right - sensor 2 - - value - implausible
- 48294B - Wheel acceleration sensor - rear left - sensor 3 - - value - implausible
- 48294F - Wheel acceleration sensor - rear right - sensor 4 - - value - implausible
CORRECTION
Perform the vehicle test and read the VDC fault code memory. If any of the VDC relevant fault codes are present, replace the wheel acceleration sensors as follows:
Fault codes are present for the front axle:
- 482943 - Wheel acceleration sensor - front left - sensor 1 - value - implausible, and/or
- 482947 - Wheel acceleration sensor - front right - sensor 2 - value - implausible,
Then:
Replace both wheel acceleration sensors on the front axle , as per attached "B370214_Interim_RA37 14 605/37 14 606" instructions.
Fault codes are present for the rear axle:
- 48294B - Wheel acceleration sensor - rear left - sensor 3 - value - implausible, and/or
- 48294F - Wheel acceleration sensor - rear right - sensor 4 - value - implausible,
Then:
Replace ALL wheel acceleration sensors on the front and rear axles, as per attached "B370214_Interim_RA37 14 605/37 14 606" instructions.

Work time labor operation code 37 99 000, as listed above, is a Plus labor operation.
If a vehicle control module or component was working properly and/or had no related faults stored prior to vehicle programming and it fails to program correctly and/or requires initialization, this additional work must be claimed with separate labor operations under the defect code listed above, refer to KSD2.
Repairs to address control modules and/or components with pre-existing conditions are not eligible to be claimed under the defect code listed in this bulletin.
