Functions of the application software (app.) in the vehicle

The application software must be launched on the portable device before BMW Connected's in-vehicle functions can be used. The BMW symbol appears on the display of the terminal device, together with the request to connect the terminal device to the vehicle. When the terminal device has been successfully connected, a message appears on the display of the terminal device. The terminal device can no longer be operated. It is operated solely by the controller in the center console. It is displayed on the vehicle's control display.

NOTE: Should the customer receive a telephone call on the connected portable device while using BMW Connected, under some conditions the BMW Connected application software may be deactivated when the call is answered. Following completion of the phone call the BMW Connected application software on the portable device will then restart automatically. If the customer wishes to make a phone call while using BMW Connected, under some conditions the application software may stop running; if so, the customer will need to restart it.

Variations from this list of functions are possible depending on the portable device and the application version's software.

Note concerning lack of a broadband data connection:

It is possible that the application software will appear in the vehicle's CID and that operation using the I-Drive controller will be possible with no problems. However, some functions, for example Facebook, will occasionally fail to work. In this case the availability of the Internet broadband data connection must be checked. The availability and speed of the broadband connection depends on the location. Drive vehicle to a different location if necessary. Check the network settings on the terminal device (mobile data connections must be switched on).
