SITUATION
Check Control message (CCM) "Restraint systems failed" appears sporadically.
The following fault memory entries may also be stored in the Air Bag Control Unit (ACSM):
- 930A67 - Airbag sensor cluster (high g x-y-direction): Communication fault
- 930A74 - Airbag sensor cluster (low g yaw rate): Communication fault
- 930A76 - Airbag sensor cluster (low g yaw rate): Short circuit after negative terminal
- 930A6D - airbag sensor cluster (high g x-direction): Wrong sensor type
- 930A70 - airbag sensor cluster (high g y-direction): Wrong sensor type
CAUSE
Electromagnetic interference from devices plugged into 12V sockets.
CORRECTION
Remove unapproved devices from 12V sockets.
PROCEDURE
For conditions that are similar to the situation described:
- Check for 12V-powered devices plugged into the power sockets. Ask customer whether any 12V-powered devices were plugged in when the message appeared.
Did (does) the message go away when the device was/is unplugged?
YES- inform customer not to use this device. No further repair is needed.
NO - continue troubleshooting.
- Perform diagnosis with the latest version of ISTA and work through any displayed test modules.
PARTS INFORMATION
Parts replacement will not provide a solution to this situation.
