Audio System Speaker Testing

SITUATION

For audio system speaker testing there is a NED (Non Electrical Diagnosis) Test Plan available.

CAUSE

We previously recommended use of the Audio Test CD (ATC) from BMW. This CD has been discontinued.

PROCEDURE

As an alternative to the ATC disc there is a test plan in NED that will output audio signals via the head unit for speaker testing.

This brings up test plan ABL-DIT-AT6512_SYSAMP - Checking sound output and audio amplifier

The test plan provides a few ways of testing audio output including directing a tone to an individual speaker for 3 seconds. At the same time, the Test Plan notifies you which speaker is being tested.

For testing of the CD drive in the head unit we recommend use of an aftermarket audio test CD.
