32 13 065 Removing And Installing (Replacing) Hydro-Steering Gear For Active Steering
RISK OF INJURY if oil comes into contact with eyes and skin!
Close off line connections with seal plugs.
Recycling
Catch and dispose of hydraulic fluid in a suitable expansion tank.
Observe country-specific waste disposal regulations
Necessary preliminary work
- Draw off and dispose of hydraulic fluid from oil reservoir
- Remove FRONT UNDERBODY PROTECTION
- Remove side steering gear cover if necessary
- E88, E93: Remove V-strut on left and right
- Remove both TRACK ROD ENDS FROM SWIVEL BEARING
- Replacement only: Remove both TRACK ROD ENDS FROM TRACK ROD
- Remove LOWER SECTION OF STEERING SHAFT FROM STEERING BOX
- Disconnect plug connection from power steering pump and expose connecting line up to steering gear
If necessary, remove heat shield from steering gear.
Release banjo bolts (1, 2).
Disconnect pressure line (4) and return line (3) from steering gear.
Installation note:
Replace all sealing rings.
Make sure hydraulic lines are laid without tension and with sufficient distance to adjoining components.
Tightening torque 32 41 9AZ (pressure line).
Tightening torque 32 41 10AZ (return line).
Release screws (1) and remove brackets.
Release screws (2) and tie up pressure line.
Tightening torque 32 41 11AZ .
Disconnect plug connection (1).
Build date up to 03/2007: Disconnect plug connection (2) on cumulative steering angle sensor.
Tie up steering gear to prevent from falling down when releasing plug connections.
Do not expose connecting lines to tensile load.
Release nuts and remove screws (1) towards bottom.
Move steering gear towards front and tie up.
Installation note:
Replace screws and nuts.
Tightening torque 32 00 1AZ .
Disconnect plug connections (1) and remove steering gear.
After installation:
- Turn steering wheel in both directions to the limit position. The airbag indicator lamp must not light up in the process.
- Fill and bleed HYDRAULIC SYSTEM
- Check line connections for leaks
- Perform chassis/wheel alignment check . See 32 00 150 KDS CHASSIS/WHEEL ALIGNMENT CHECK WITH VEHICLE LOAD UP TO DESIGN POSITION or 32 00 155 KDS CHASSIS/WHEEL ALIGNMENT CHECK WITH RIDE HEIGHT MEASUREMENT WITHOUT VEHICLE LOAD
