Exhaust emission system: Notes

The engines are of the new modular-engine type. Depending on the motorization, different versions of the exhaust emission system are used. 3-cylinder petrol engine with a 3-in-1 water-cooled aluminum manifold. 4-cylinder petrol engine and 6-cylinder petrol engine with a BMW TwinPower Turbo, with a turbine housing integrated into the steel cast manifold.

The engines feature an oxidation catalytic converter located near the engine itself. A wide-opening electrical wastegate valve ensures optimum emission behavior.

The engines comply with the EURO 6 exhaust emission standards. Two oxygen sensors are used for the oxygen sensor emissions control. One oxygen sensor serves as the control sensor and is mounted between the engine and the near-engine catalytic converter. The second oxygen sensor serves as a monitoring sensor in the near-engine catalyst (between monolith 1 and monolith 2).
