17 00 ... Removing And Installing/Replacing Radiator Core (BMW ALPINA B7)
Special tools required:
- 11 0 020
- 11 5 160
Only perform this work after engine has cooled down.
Recycling:
Catch and dispose of escaping coolant.
Observe country-specific waste-disposal regulations.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Read out fault memory of DME control unit
- Switch off ignition
- Remove clean air pipe . See 13 71 038 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING CLEAN AIR PIPE (BMW ALPINA B7) .
- Remove transmission oil cooler . See 17 00 ... REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING RADIATOR CORE (BMW ALPINA B7) .
- Remove engine oil cooler . See 17 21 150 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING ENGINE OIL COOLER (BMW ALPINA B7) .
- Drain off air conditioner . See 64 50 009 DRAWING OFF, EVACUATING AND FILLING A/C SYSTEM (R 134A) .
Follow instructions for working on cooling system . See 17 00 ... INSTRUCTIONS FOR WORKING ON COOLING SYSTEM .
Open cap on coolant expansion tank.
Release drain plug (1). Drain, catch and dispose off coolant.
Unlock coolant hoses and detach.
Press line (2) for power steering in direction of cooling loop. Pull locking ring towards rear and keep pressed. Detach line (2) from cooling loop.
Installation:
Quick-connect couplings must be clearly heard to snap into place.
Remove cover (1).
Remove air duct (2).
Unfasten clip.
Tightening torque: 5 Nm.
Detach charge-air hose (1) from intake pipe (2).
Unfasten clip.
Tightening torque: 5 Nm.
Detach charge-air hose (1) from intercooler.
Feed out charge-air pipe (2) downwards and remove.
Release clamps.
Tightening torque: 5 Nm.
Press radiator core forwards slightly and detach and remove charge-air hose (1).
If the charge-air hoses are not fitted dry and without grease, this may cause supercharger system failure!
Unlock and detach vent hose (1).
Unlock connector (2) and remove.
Loosen retainers.
Raise upper section (3) of intake filter housing in direction of arrow and remove.
Unlock plug (1) and remove.
Release screws (1).
Tightening torque. See COOLING SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES .
Disconnect lines (2) towards top and lay to one side.
Lift out condenser.
Release screws a few turns.
Installation:
Tightening torque: 9 Nm.
Mount special tool 11 5 160.
The procedure is identical for the right side.
Suspend radiator core from special tool 11 0 020.
Raise radiator core to a minimal extent.
Unlock holder (1) and remove.
Lower radiator core in direction of arrow, set down on floor and secure against falling over. Remove special tool 11 0 020.
Installation:
Make sure rubber mounts are correctly seated on module carrier.
(Rubber mounts can fall off)
Installation:
When installing radiator core, make sure radiator core (1) and air duct (2) are correctly positioned.
Check stored fault messages.
Clear fault memory
Add coolant . See 17 00 005 DRAINING AND ADDING COOLANT (N62) .
Check power steering fluid level
Bleed power steering unit . See 32 13 006 BLEEDING POWER STEERING UNIT .
Check oil/fluid levels in engine and in automatic transmission, refer to MAINTENANCE AND GENERAL INFORMATION HG00.
Check all coolant lines/hydraulic lines for leaks
