17 00 ... Removing And Installing/Replacing Radiator Core (BMW ALPINA B7)

Special tools required: 

WARNING: Danger of scalding!
Only perform this work after engine has cooled down.
IMPORTANT: Wear protective gloves and goggles.

Recycling: 

Catch and dispose of escaping coolant.

Observe country-specific waste-disposal regulations.

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

Follow instructions for working on cooling system  . See 17 00 ... INSTRUCTIONS FOR WORKING ON COOLING SYSTEM .

Open cap on coolant expansion tank.

Release drain plug (1). Drain, catch and dispose off coolant.

Unlock coolant hoses and detach.

Press line (2) for power steering in direction of cooling loop. Pull locking ring towards rear and keep pressed. Detach line (2) from cooling loop.

NOTE: Texts refer to and illustrations show the power steering line on the right side. The procedure is identical for the left side.

Installation: 

Quick-connect couplings must be clearly heard to snap into place.

Remove cover (1).

Remove air duct (2).

NOTE: Texts refer to and illustrations show the left side. The procedure is identical for the right side.

Unfasten clip.

Tightening torque: 5 Nm.

Detach charge-air hose (1) from intake pipe (2).

Unfasten clip.

Tightening torque: 5 Nm.

Detach charge-air hose (1) from intercooler.

Feed out charge-air pipe (2) downwards and remove.

Release clamps.

Tightening torque: 5 Nm.

Press radiator core forwards slightly and detach and remove charge-air hose (1).

IMPORTANT: Charge-air hoses with clamp fastenings must be installed dry and free from grease!
If the charge-air hoses are not fitted dry and without grease, this may cause supercharger system failure!

Unlock and detach vent hose (1).

Unlock connector (2) and remove.

Loosen retainers.

Raise upper section (3) of intake filter housing in direction of arrow and remove.

Unlock plug (1) and remove.

Release screws (1).

Tightening torque. See COOLING SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Disconnect lines (2) towards top and lay to one side.

Lift out condenser.

NOTE: Instructions on removing and installing A/C system condenser  must be observed without fail! See 64 53 551 REMOVING AND INSTALLING / REPLACING CONDENSER FOR A / C SYSTEM (N62) .

Release screws a few turns.

Installation: 

Tightening torque: 9 Nm.

Mount special tool 11 5 160. 

NOTE: Text refers to and illustrations show the left side.

The procedure is identical for the right side.

Suspend radiator core from special tool 11 0 020. 

Raise radiator core to a minimal extent.

Unlock holder (1) and remove.

Lower radiator core in direction of arrow, set down on floor and secure against falling over. Remove special tool 11 0 020. 

Installation: 

Make sure rubber mounts are correctly seated on module carrier.

(Rubber mounts can fall off)

Installation: 

When installing radiator core, make sure radiator core (1) and air duct (2) are correctly positioned.

Check stored fault messages.

Clear fault memory

Add coolant  . See 17 00 005 DRAINING AND ADDING COOLANT (N62) .

Check power steering fluid level

Bleed power steering unit  . See 32 13 006 BLEEDING POWER STEERING UNIT .

Check oil/fluid levels in engine and in automatic transmission, refer to MAINTENANCE AND GENERAL INFORMATION HG00.

Check all coolant lines/hydraulic lines for leaks
