61 11 ... Replacing wiring harness at front right
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove right front seat. Refer to 52 16 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING LEFT OR RIGHT FRONT SEAT .
- Disconnect battery negative lead. Refer to 12 00 ... Instructions for disconnecting and connecting battery .
- Remove right front wheel.
- Remove complete front right wheel arch cover. Refer to 51 71 040 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING FRONT LEFT OR RIGHT WHEEL ARCH COVER .
- Remove right intake filter housing. Refer to 13 71 020 REMOVING AND INSTALLING RIGHT INTAKE FILTER HOUSING (S62) .
- Remove right high beam headlight. Refer to 63 12 170 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING LEFT OR RIGHT HIGH-BEAM HEADLIGHT .
- Remove sound insulation from firewall (top). Refer to 51 13 ... REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING SOUNDPROOFING IN FIREWALL (TOP) .
- Remove engine hood sound insulation.
- Remove right glovebox with housing. Refer to 51 16 366 REMOVING AND INSTALLING RIGHT GLOVEBOX WITH HOUSING .
- Remove footwell side trim panel from A-pillar.
- Remove right additional turn-signal lamp light module. Refer to 63 14 ... REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING LIGHT MODULE FOR RIGHT ADDITIONAL TURN SIGNAL LAMP .
Fold back carpet in front area.
Removal:
Subsequent removal of the wiring harness is described separately from installation.
Remove optical fiber (2) towards rear to additional turn-signal lamp light module.
Cut through main wiring harness (1) as illustrated with sufficient excess length.
Detach cut-off main wiring harness from engine compartment and remove.
Remove supply cable (cross-section 6 mm2 ) from E box (X18326) to potential distributor (X2) (contained in repair wiring harness).
Installation:
Installation of the wiring harness is described separately from removal.
General information:
Notes on assignment of repair connectors:
Refer to DIS under Component and signal information / plug, fan and soldered connectors / connectors from X1... / X18987B - X18996B, X19032B.
Do not kink additional turn-signal lamp optical fiber when installing.
Procedure:
- Fit all cut leads of main wiring harness with stop parts.
- Pin in leads in accordance with schematic in DIS.
- Strip insulation from cable.
- Crimp stop parts. Refer to 61 13 ... Crimping Micro Power Quadlock contacts (MPQ) and 61 13 ... Crimping Micro Quadlock System contacts (MQS) .
- Connect precrimped leads to corresponding plugs (refer to schematic).
- Cut off and insulate unpinned leads.
- Follow notes and instructions on installing/removing multiple connector systems. Refer to 61 13 ... Opening plug housings and removing contacts of different plug systems .
- Replace cable ties that have been cut open.
Stick foam pads under or around repair connectors (1).
Secure repair connectors (1) using cable ties from repair kit saving as much space as possible.
