Telephone Functions:

With the exception of the emergency call, the telephone functions are only active when a SIM card (Subscriber Identity Module) is inserted.

The following telephone functions are possible with the TCU (Telematic Control Unit):

• Make a call
  • Accept call
  • Make call in hands-free mode
  • Make call with handset (privacy mode)
  • End call
  • Transfer telephone directory
• Emergency call functions
  • Automatic emergency call
  • Manually trigger an emergency call (using the emergency call button)
  • Breakdown call

Storing the Bluetooth handset in the vehicle  It is important to lock the Bluetooth handset in the eject box while you are driving. This has the following benefits:

• Reduced risk of injury from loose objects inside the vehicle in the event of sharp braking.
• The battery charge in the Bluetooth handset (e.g. lithium ion battery) is continually monitored by the Telematic Control Unit (TCU).

Making An Emergency Call 

The national emergency number stored in the TCU can be called up and sent (display depending on vehicle equipment):

• On vehicles with on-board monitor and navigation system:
  • Call up the telephone menu. The emergency number and the vehicle position are displayed.
  • Press the emergency call button.
• Vehicles with multi-information display:
  • Call up the telephone menu. The emergency number is displayed.
  • Press the emergency call button.

Making A Call  The Telematic Control Unit (TCU) recognises an incoming call and switches the audio output for the radio to mute (via a mute signal). At the same time, the loudspeakers in the vehicle are activated for voice signal output (by the digital sound processor). When the Bluetooth handset is connected, a ringing sound is sent from the loudspeakers in the vehicle to indicate an incoming call. At the same time, a signal is sent via the Bluetooth interface to the TCU and Bluetooth antenna connected. This signal is received by the Bluetooth handset and converted into a ringing tone.

Accept Call 

A call can be accepted in the following way:

• Press the transmit/receive button on the on-board monitor or multi-information radio (MIR).
• Press the transmit/receive button on the multi-function steering wheel (if fitted)
• Press the transmit/receive button on the Bluetooth mobile phone.

Hands-free mode is possible if the call is accepted in the following way:

• Press the transmit/receive button on the radio headphones with microphone.
• Press the transmit/receive button on the multi-function steering wheel (if fitted).

The telephone call is then conducted using the hands-free microphone and the loudspeakers in the vehicle. If the call is accepted by pressing the transmit/receive button on the mobile phone, the reaction depends on the mobile phone used.

Hands-Free Mode  The hands-free facility works with full duplex transmission. In full duplex transmissions, both partners can speak and listen simultaneously.

• To activate the hands-free facility:

  The hands-free facility is activated by pressing the transmit/receive button. Audio output remains deactivated so long as the hands-free facility is active. When the transmit/receive button is pressed, the incoming call is output through the loudspeakers into the vehicle interior.

End Call  A call is ended as follows:

• Press the transmit/receive button on the on-board monitor or multi-information radio display, etc.
• Press the transmit/receive button on the multi-function steering wheel (if fitted).
• Press the transmit/receive button on the Bluetooth mobile phone.

Deactivating The Hands-Free Facility  A transmit/receive button must be pressed to deactivate the hands-free facility. When the hands-free facility is deactivated, the radio is unmuted and the audio output is reactivated simultaneously.
