Front Axle Support: Installation

  1. Installation is reverse of removal.
  2. Replace self-locking nuts and tighten to specification. The front screw on front axle support is 12 x 7 mm. Damaged threads in engine supports may be repaired with Helicoil thread inserts. Install inserts so they are flush with original thread. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  3. Draw in steering gear on screw (1) until it abuts the front axle support and on tighten hand tight. First tighten screws (2) then tighten screw (1). See Figure. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  4. Replace self-locking nut, use washer (1), and install tie rod to steering knuckle. Brace on hexagon socket if necessary. See Figure. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  5. Install tie rod to pitman arm. Ensure tapered spigot and bore are free of grease. Replace self locking nut. Brace on hexagon socket if necessary. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  6. Align front axle. See WHEEL ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES  under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION.
