Throttle Housing Assembly 

MODEL

E65 745i with N62 engine

E66 745Li with N62 engine

SITUATION

A damaged throttle housing assembly may have been installed on some of the affected vehicles during production.

If an affected vehicle has a potentially damaged throttle housing installed, it may cause the vehicle to run in the "fail safe" mode with reduced engine performance and top road speed.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

This Service Action involves E65 and E66 vehicles with N62 engines which were produced from 8/20/2001 - 12/28/2001.

In order to determine if a specific vehicle is affected by this Service Action, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of the DCS (Dealer Communication System). Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.

The Chassis Number Ranges listed below are only for informational purposes and are not to be considered as the only deciding factor.

CORRECTION

Check and if necessary replace the throttle housing assembly on all affected vehicles.

PROCEDURE

1. Remove the four hold down bolts (arrows) and remove engine acoustic cover (1).

2. Check the production date of the throttle housing assembly as follows:

   • If the production date is within the period from 14-08-01 to 20-11-01,  then the throttle body assembly must be replaced as described in repair manual, group 13, section 13 54 030.
   • If the production date is before or after the production period referred to above, then the throttle body assembly is OK and no further action is required.
3. Reinstall engine acoustic cover.

PARTS INFORMATION

Orders for parts specified may be placed as a VOR or stock order. Please place the VIN number in the comment/text field of your DCS order. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE VIN NOT BE USED AS THE P.O. NUMBER. THIS WILL PREVENT USING THE VIN AGAIN FOR SUBSEQUENT VIN SPECIFIC ORDERS. Additional Service Actions will affect many of the vehicles involved in this Service Action. ONLY ORDERS WITH A VIN WILL BE RELEASED. ALL OTHER ORDERS WILL BE CANCELLED.

LABEL INSTRUCTIONS

This Service Action has been assigned code number 331.  After the vehicle has been checked, and corrected if necessary, obtain a label (SD 92-180) and:

1. emboss your BMW dealer warranty number in the middle of the label (1);
2. punch out code number 331  printed on the label and,
3. affix the label to the B  pillar as shown.

If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
