Removal & Installation

CAUTION: AIRBAG unit must be placed with padded cushion facing upward.
  1. Move steering wheel to straight ahead position.
  2. Remove AIRBAG unit. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.
  3. Remove lower section of steering column trim. See STEERING COLUMN TRIM (LOWER SECTION)  .
  4. Pull off connectors. See Fig 1 .
  5. Release steering wheel to spindle bolt. See Fig 2 .
  6. Mark steering wheel in relation to steering spindle. Remove steering wheel. See Fig 3 .
  7. Adjust contact ring if necessary. See CONTACT RING  under ADJUSTMENTS.
  8. To install, reverse removal procedure. Turning lock must be removed if contact ring has been replaced.
  9. Locking pin (1) must snap into place in recess (2). See Fig 4 .
  10. Ensure wheels are in straight ahead position. Markings on steering wheel and steering spindle must match up. Fit steering wheel. Tighten screw to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
