MoDiC III Diagnostic Head Connection Process
SITUATION
Programming or coding a control module should be performed with the COM1 cable in place of the radio frequency connection. Quicker programming and better accuracy will result. Following are directions that should be followed to:
- Switch from radio connection to COM cable connection.
- Switch from COM cable connection to radio connection.
Switch from radio connection to COM cable connection
Follow these steps if you are diagnosing the vehicle and recoding or programming is required.
- Select "Administration" then "Connection setup".
- Select "Quit connection".
- Diagnostic head identification line will now appear in the "Free diagnostic head box".
- Connect the COM cable to the MoDiC and the diagnostic head.
- Wait until the diagnostic head LED flashes or goes solid green.
- Select "Quit connection" if light goes solid green (must be done or faults may occur).
- Select "Connect".
- Select "end", "quit", "terminate".
- Select "end", "quit", "terminate".
Switch from COM cable connection to radio connection
Follow these steps when you are finished programming the vehicle and wish to return to radio frequency communication.
- Select "Administration" then "Connection setup".
- Select "Quit connection".
- Turn ignition off.
- Disconnect COM cable from MoDiC and diagnostic head.
- Restart head by removing and replacing main diagnostic cable from the vehicles 20 pin diagnostic connector.
- When head LED flashes green turn ignition on.
- Select "connect" when head identification line appears in the "Free diagnostic head" box.
- Select "end", "quit", "terminate".
- Select "end", "quit".
MODIC III HEAT RELATED COMMUNICATION PROBLEMS
One or more of the following messages may be displayed if the diagnostic head is subjected to engine compartment temperatures of 140°F or above (with or without the COM cable connected).
- Diagnostic bus error
- Communication between MoDiC and head is faulty
- Error number 200.59
Normal diagnostic head operation will resume when the diagnostic head cools down. Always place the head in a position where it is not exposed to such high temperatures to avoid this problem.
