SITUATION

Distribution of the following tool will be through the Automatic Tool Shipment Program. Additional tools may be purchased through your PDC. Refer to Parts Information bulletin 01 01 95 for tool warranty details.

TOOL INFORMATION

VANOS Switching Unit P/N 90 88 6 126 050

Used with 90 88 6 126 410 (04 27 92 (3648) ) to R & R the VANOS unit. Refer to repair manual section 11 36 030.

Diode Kit (No Part Number)

This diode kit is included with special tool 90 88 6 126 050.

This diode kit must be installed on adapter cable P/N 90 88 6 126 410 (04 27 92 (3648) ) to protect the VANOS unit and special tool 90 88 6 126 050 from polarity reversal. If the adapter cable is equipped with a diode (bump on red lead) the following kit is not needed. The kit consists of:

diode lead
Shrink tubing
Shrink tubing

Instructions:

Slide back protective boot from positive lead.
Carefully bend tension relief up.
Unscrew red wire from alligator clip.
Cut ring terminal from red wire.
Strip 5mm of insulation from red wire.
Slide small red shrink tubing over red wire.
Crimp red wire to new diode harness. Heat red tubing to shrink.
Slide large black shrink tubing over diode and crimped connector.
Heat black tubing to shrink.
Screw new ring terminal to alligator clip. Bend down tension relief.
Slide the protective boot over the positive alligator clip.
