12 72 520 Removing and installing/replacing accelerator sensor (M73)

  1. Switch off ignition.
NOTE: Whenever the accelerator sensor (PWG) is disconnected, basic adaptation of the accelerator sensor is required.
Procedure: Connect up DIS and select Diagnosis on EPC-1I Is control unit, then follow procedure set out in DIS instructions.

Remove lower trim from instrument panel.

NOTE: Press accelerator pedal by hand so as to avoid bending the pedal tip and falsifying the measured values.

Location: The accelerator sensor (1) is fitted to the pedal block.

Unscrew and remove control unit (1) from bracket. Unfasten screws (2) and remove bracket.

Remove retaining ring (1) and unhook lever.

Unfasten plug connection (1). Unfasten screws.

Installation: 

  1. Note installation position of pedal travel sensor.

Note lever position (1 and 2).

CAUTION: Lever (1) is factory-set and must not be released.
If the lever (1) has been released, the entire pedal travel sensor must be replaced!

Installation: 

  1. Install bracket (1) with weld-in nuts.

Check adjustment of kickdown switch.

Installation: 

  1. Whenever the accelerator sensor (PWG) is disconnected, basic adaptation of the accelerator sensor is required.
  2. Implementation: 
  3. Connect DIS and select diagnosis of EML IIIs control unit. To proceed, follow DIS instructions.
