Troubleshooting on the front axle
FRONT AXLE TROUBLESHOOTING
| Fault |
Cause |
Remedy |
| 1. Toe deviation |
- Vehicle not in normal position
- Tie rod(s) bent
- Ball joints on track rod(s) misaligned
- Rubber mount in control arm faulty
|
- Height setting, refer to RIDING HEIGHT
- Replacing track rod(s), refer to 32 21 231 REPLACING LEFT OR RIGHT TIE ROD .

- Replacing control arm, refer to UPPER CONTROL ARM
.
|
2. Camber deviation: Camber is defined by design and cannot be adjusted. |
- Rubber mount in control arm faulty
- Control arm deformed
- Spring strut deformed
- Guide joint worn
- Spring deflection too great
- Front-axle carrier deformed
- Spring strut shock absorber mount mis-shapen
- Distortion in floor assembly (engine carrier)

|
| 4. Toe-difference angle deviation |
Requirements: camber and caster are correct
- Tie rods not adjusted uniformly
|
- Adjust toe on left and right sides to same value
|
| 5. Wheel-offset deviation |
Requirements: front wheels have equal single toe to geometrical axis
- Front-axle carrier deformed
