CORRECTION
Reprogram the engine control module (DME) in order to revise the software/data structure of the currently installed DME using programming software P10.0 or higher.
PROCEDURE
- Repair any faults that are set.
- Reprogram the engine control module by using MODIC/DIS programming software P10.0 or higher and follow the procedure given in TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 12 05 96 .
- After reprogramming the DME with P10.0, the following part number for a programmed control unit" must be displayed on the DME identification screen.CONTROL UNIT PART NUMBER
Model P/N -"Programmed control unit" Z3 (2.8l) 1 430 188 NOTE: Since the engine control module no longer contains a removable EPROM but rather a soldered in "flash" EEPROM, the Engine Control Module (DME) no longer needs to be removed in order to complete this Service Action. Control modules which use the "flash" technology can be updated a total of 13 times, using the MODIC or DIS, before they must be replaced. - Once the update is complete perform a "quick clear" of all control modules. The "quick clear" will clear any erroneous faults that may have set in other modules during the reprogramming of the DME.
SERVICE ACTION LABEL INSTRUCTIONS
This Service Action has been assigned code number 195. After the vehicle has been checked, and corrected if necessary, obtain a label (SD 92-085) and:
- emboss your BMW dealer warranty number in the middle of the label (1);
- punch out code number 195 printed on the label and,
- affix the label to the B pillar as shown in Fig 1 .
If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
WARRANTY INFORMATION
Parts and labor will be reimbursable under the terms of the applicable BMW Emissions Warranty.
