Removal & Installation

  1. Switch off ignition.
  2. Remove cover strip from left door spoiler.
  3. Remove loudspeaker cover from front left footwell.
  4. Fold away carpet from door spoiler.
  5. Unlock cable connector and remove from control unit (1). See Figure .
  6. Unfasten retaining screws from control unit and remove unit.
  7. To install, reverse removal procedure.
  8. If installing a new control unit, encode it. Refer to BMW Diagnosis System.
  9. On vehicles with DSC, a steering angle adjustment must also be made. Refer to BMW Diagnosis System.
  10. On vehicles with ABS/ASC+T from 12/94, if the control unit is replaced, the ABS engine relay must also be replaced. The valve relay clicks when the ignition is switched on and off. The engine relay does not demonstrate any reaction.
