Checking Fluid Level

On all models except 540i, check fluid with vehicle on level surface, transmission at normal operating temperature, engine idling and gear selector in PARK position. Ensure fluid level is between MAX and MIN marks on dipstick. On 540i, ensure transmission is cold. Remove fill plug from center of oil pan. Some oil will spill from above pan plug. If oil spills out from around raised area of oil pan, transmission is full.
