SRS Control Unit

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 9 other vehicles, including the 1992 BMW M5, 1992 BMW 735iL, 1992 BMW 735i, 1992 BMW 535i, and 1992 BMW 525i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

SRS control unit monitors SRS continuously and diagnoses any faults in system. SRS control unit is sometimes referred to as the SRS diagnostic monitor. When vehicle is moving, SRS control unit informs driver of any faults in SRS by flashing SRS warning light for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, SRS light will remain on until fault is repaired and SRS control unit defect fault code memory is cleared.

SRS control unit contains an internal safing impact sensor. SRS control unit must receive signals from one crash sensor and safing impact sensor simultaneously to activate SRS. Consequently the SRS cannot be activated by a hammer blow or other similar influence.
