Valve Timing

  1. Rotate crankshaft to place No. 1 piston on TDC. Timing pointer must align with notch in crankshaft damper. Distributor rotor must align with notch in housing. See Figure.
  2. Position camshaft so that timing notch on camshaft flange is up, and aligns with cast tab on cylinder head. Dowel pin locating hole in camshaft flange must be positioned downward.
  3. Install timing chain components. Without moving crankshaft or camshaft, install camshaft sprocket so that it engages in dowel pin locating hole in camshaft flange.
