Rocker Arm Assembly: Removal

  1. With camshaft removed, push back thrust ring and rocker arm so rocker shaft circlip may be removed (See Fig 1). Remove distributor mounting flange.
  2. Drive out rocker shafts with a punch. Remove rocker arms, springs and thrust rings.

    NOTE: Rocker shaft on intake side is open at rear. Exhaust rocker shaft is plugged.

  3. Replace rocker arms with loose slide pads.
    NOTE: Two styles of rocker arms are available. Old style rocker arm without bushing and with 0.472" (12 mm) wide slide pad. Rocker shaft oil hole faces downward. New style rocker arm with bushing and 0.433" (71 mm) wide slide pad has two rocker shaft oil holes horizontal.
