Transmission, Installing: Procedure
- Refer to the "Transmission, Removing" procedure for a list of the special tools needed. Refer to TRANSMISSION, REMOVING .
- Replace bolts that were tightened with an additional turn after removing them.
- Replace the self-locking nuts and bolts, gaskets, seals and O-rings after removal.
- Secure all hose connections with hose clamps corresponding to series production. Refer to the Electronic Parts Information (ETKA).
- During installation, all cable ties must be installed at the same location.
Install in the reverse order of removal while noting the following:
- Tightening specifications. Refer to TRANSMISSION TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS .
-- Remove the screen -1- of the oil cooler carefully using a screwdriver and check for contamination.
-- If necessary, clean the screen and clip it in again.
-- Replace the needle bearing -arrow- in the crankshaft. Refer to CRANKSHAFT NEEDLE BEARING, REPLACING .
-- Grease the transmission pins (not the splines) lightly.
-- Check if the alignment sleeves -A- for centering the engine/transmission are in the cylinder block and insert them if they are not.
- The missing alignment sleeves due to an offset from the engine and transmission lead to damage to the needle bearing in the crankshaft.
-- Make sure the intermediate plate is seated correctly -arrows-.
-- Carefully lift the transmission using the Engine and Gearbox Jack :VAS 6931 and bring it to its installation position using the Transmission Support :3282 .
-- Insert the transmission without pinching any lines.
- Engine and transmission must be brought together by hand until both flanges contact all around!
- If this is not the case, readjust the transmission support until the engine and transmission align.
-- Attach the transmission to the engine.
- For the bolts -1 and 2-, use the Insert Tool - 18mm :T10179 ; while doing so, note the changed tightening specification.
- For the bolt -3- in the starter hole, use the Socket - XZN 14 :T10061 .
- For the bolts -6 and 7-, use the Ring Wrench - 16mm :T10388 with the Torque Wrench, 6-50 Nm :V.A.G 1331A ; while doing so, note the changed tightening specification.
-- Remove the Transmission Support :3282 from the transmission.
-- Lift the engine/transmission assembly using the spindles on the Engine Support Bridge :10 - 222 A .
-- Align the engine/transmission assembly in its installation position. To do so, lift it until the transmission is completely flat on the transmission mount.
Tip
- Before installing the bolts -arrows- the transmission and transmission mount must be parallel to each other. If necessary, lift the transmission using the Engine and Gearbox Jack :VAS 6931 .
-- Install the bolts -arrows- but only tighten by hand.
-- Check the subframe mount adjustment. Adjust if necessary. Refer to ASSEMBLY MOUNT, ADJUSTING .
- Remove Engine Support Bridge :10-222 A only when all subframe mount bolts are tightened to the specified torque and the subframe is installed.
-- Install the coolant pipe on the transmission. Refer to OVERVIEW - COOLANT PIPES .
-- Install the coolant hoses on the transmission fluid cooler.
Risk of destroying due to electrostatic charge.
- Do not touch the connector terminals.
- Touch a grounded object (for example the hoist) and discharge any static electricity.
-- Attach the connector for the Dual-Clutch Transmission Mechatronic -J743- and turn the twist lock clockwise to lock it.
-- Connections and routing. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram.
-- Install the selector lever cable. Refer to SHIFT MECHANISM, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Adjust the selector lever cable. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, CHECKING AND ADJUSTING .
-- If the transmission is replaced or the bleeder line is removed from the transmission: remove the closure cap -arrow-.
-- Attach the drive axles to the transmission. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the right drive axle heat shield. Refer to DRIVE AXLE HEAT SHIELD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Vehicles with AWD: install the driveshaft at the bevel box. Refer to the appropriate service information .
-- Assemble the exhaust system and align it without tension. Refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM, INSTALLING WITHOUT TENSION .
-- Install the subframe. Refer to SUBFRAME WITHOUT STEERING GEAR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the left front wheel housing liner. Refer to OVERVIEW - FRONT WHEEL HOUSING LINER .
-- Install the starter. Refer to STARTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the left air duct pipe. Refer to OVERVIEW - CHARGE AIR SYSTEM .
-- Install the battery tray. Refer to BATTERY TRAY, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Check the coolant level. Refer to COOLANT, DRAINING AND FILLING .
If the transmission is replaced, the "Replace control module" function must be performed using the Vehicle diagnostic tester .
-- Select Individual test on the Vehicle diagnostic tester .
