Special tools and workshop equipment required
- John Bean - Wheel Alignment Computer:VAS701001
- Setting Device - Basic Set:VAS6430/1A
- Setting Device - Basic Set:VAS6430/1
- Night Vision Calibration Tool:VAS6430/6
- Calibration Tool - Linear Laser:VAS6350/3A
Calibration of the night vision system is necessary:
Conditions
- The installation position of the Night Vision System Camera -R212- in the vehicle was changed.
- Night Vision System Control Module -J853- was replaced.
- Rear axle toe/chamber was adjusted.
Conditions
The calibration requirements must be met.
- Refer to CALIBRATION CONDITIONS
Procedure
The procedure is described on a John Bean - Wheel Alignment Computer:VAS701001 .
The procedure may vary if using other wheel alignment computers.
-- Note the test requirements. Refer to TEST REQUIREMENTS .
-- Perform the initial wheel alignment.
-- Select the button for the Night Vision System Camera -R212- calibration procedure on the wheel alignment computer.
-- Remove the front driver assistance systems cover. Refer to OVERVIEW - BUMPER COVER .
-- Position the Night Vision Calibration Tool:VAS6430/6 so that it is centered on the calibration beam on the Setting Device - Basic Set:VAS6430/1 .
-- When sliding the Night Vision Calibration Tool: VAS6430/6 onto the calibration beam, the opening -arrows- must fit around the nut or bolt -A-.
-- Fold up the right and left bracket -A-.
-- Tighten the right and left clamping screw -1- hand-tight.
-- Position the Setting Device - Basic Set:VAS6430/1 with the Night Vision Calibration Tool:VAS6430/6 in front of the vehicle.
-- Position the Night Vision Calibration Tool:VAS6430/6 at distance -a- from the night vision system camera.
Conditions
- Distance -a- = 120 cm to 150 cm, measured between the Night Vision Calibration Tool:VAS6430/6 and the lens of the Night Vision System Camera -R212-.
-- Attach the measuring sensor for the front wheels to the calibration beam.
Conditions
- For the following work steps, the hoist must be in the lowest position -A-.
-- Insert the Calibration Tool - Linear Laser:VAS6350/3 -arrow- into the guide on the Night Vision Calibration Tool:VAS6430/6 and secure it.
-- Switch on the Calibration Tool - Linear Laser:VAS6350/3 .
-- Turn the lever on the back of the calibration board to align the laser beam -1- so that it is in the center of the camera lens -2- in the horizontal position.
-- Switch off the Calibration Tool - Linear Laser:VAS6350/3 .
-- Balance the bubble level -A- using the adjusting screw -1-.
-- Slide the Setting Device Basic Set:VAS6430 to the side in direction of -arrows B-, until the display in the wheel alignment computer is in the tolerance range.
-- Tighten the bolts -2 and 3- by hand, to prevent the Setting Device - Basic Set:VAS6430 from rolling away.
-- Turn the precision adjustment screw -1- on the calibration beam until the display on the alignment computer is located within the tolerance range.
-- Balance the bubble level -A- using the adjusting screw -1-.
-- Balance the bubble level -B- using the adjusting screw -2-.
-- Switch the Calibration Tool - Linear Laser:VAS6350/3 on again and check the specified height. Correct the height if necessary.
-- Switch off the linear laser.
-- Connect the plug -A- for the Night Vision Calibration Tool:VAS6430/6 to the socket.
-- Switch on switch -B-.
Conditions
- Both LED -C- will illuminate in sync with the acoustic warning tone after successful initialization. After this the calibration device is in standby mode. The green LED flash slowly.
- Levels are balanced, otherwise make corrections.
-- Press the button -A- to activate the heat function.
- An acoustic signal will sound when the heating function is activated. The heat-up phase has begun.
- As soon as the specified temperature is reached, the green LED will stay on.
- The heating elements switch off automatically after 20 minutes. An acoustic signal will sound approximately 1 minute before the heating elements switch off automatically.
- Press the button -A- at any time to reset the timer back to 20 minutes. An short acoustic signal confirms that it has be reset.
-- Perform the adjustment/calibration function for the Night Vision System Control Module -J853- using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester. Refer to Diagnostic Entries .
-- The fine adjustment is done using the screw -arrow-.
-- Install the front driver assistance systems cover. Refer to OVERVIEW - BUMPER COVER .
-- Disconnect the battery charger. Refer to BATTERY, CHARGING .
