Abs Control Module J104/Abs Hydraulic Unit N55, Removing And Installing: Removing
Conditions
- Seal the open connections from the brake system immediately with Plugs:1H0 698 311 A or Plugs:5Q0 698 311 .
The ABS Control Module -J104- /ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55- will be called hydraulic control unit in the information that follows.
If the control module for J104 is replaced:
-- Perform the "control module, replacing" function using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester. Refer to Diagnostic Entries .

-- Insert the Brake Pedal Actuator:V.A.G 1869/2 between the brake pedal and driver seat. Pretension the brake pedal at least 60 mm.
-- Remove the protective cap -3- from the bleed screw -1- on the front brake caliper.
Tip
If required, remove the wheels. Refer to WHEEL, REMOVING .
-- Connect the hose -2- from the bleeder bottle on the bleed screw -1-.
-- Open the bleed screw -1- to lower the pressure in the brake system.
-- Close the bleed screw -1- and remove the bleeder bottle.
-- Repeat the procedure on the left rear brake caliper.
-- Remove the front luggage compartment liner. Refer to FRONT LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LINER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Disconnect the connector -4-.
Conditions
- Make sure no brake fluid gets on the contacts.
- Place sufficient lint-free cleaning cloths in the area under the hydraulic control unit.
-- Mark the layout of the brake lines -2- and -3-.
-- Remove the brake lines -2- and -3-.
Conditions
- Never change the shape of the brake lines.
-- Pull the hydraulic control unit -1- upward out of the bracket.
-- If the hydraulic unit -2- is replaced, remove the bolts -arrows- and the bracket -1-.
