Engine And Transmission, Separating
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Engine Sling: 2024A
- Lifting Eyebolt: 3368
- Shop Crane: VAS 6100
- Engine Bung Set: VAS 6122
- Lifting Device: T40123B
Procedure
- Engine/transmission assembly removed and mounted on Engine/Gearbox Jack - Engine Support: T10359A .
-- Remove the starter. Refer to STARTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the left air duct pipe. Refer to LEFT AIR DUCT PIPE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the nut -arrows- and remove the front bracket from the transmission fluid pan.
AWD Vehicle:
-- Remove the bolts -1 and 2- and remove the bevel box bracket.
Continuation for All Vehicles:
-- Place a cloth underneath to catch leaking coolant.
-- Loosen the hose clamps -arrows-, remove the coolant hoses -1 and 2- from the transmission fluid cooler (example illustration).
-- Seal the open lines and connections with clean plugs from the Engine Bung Set: VAS 6122 .
-- Remove the bolt -1- as well as the nut -2- and press the coolant pipe to the side.
-- Remove the eye from the Lifting Device: T40123B -item 1- and insert it into the lower threaded hole for the starter bolt all the way.
-- Secure the Lifting Eyebolt: 3368 -item 6- with two lock nuts -7- on the transmission housing hole.
-- Engage the Engine Sling: 2024A -item 3- as shown on the both eyes and on the Workshop Crane: VAS 6100 -item 4-.
- To be aligned to the center of gravity of the transmission, the mounting hook rail with holes must be inserted as shown.
There is a risk of injury from the lifted engine/motor falling.
The possibility for parts of the body to be pinched or crushed increases.
- Secure the mounting hooks and pins on the lifting tackle with a securing pin.
-- Insert the securing pins -arrows- to secure the mounting hooks and alignment pins.
-- Remove the bolts -1 to 8- for the transmission/engine connection.
-- Remove the transmission from the engine.
