Windshield, Removing And Installing: Notes

• Pay attention to the repair information. Refer to REPAIR INFORMATION .
• To complete the procedure, a second technician is required to be at the following position found here. Refer to Lift the windshield off the vehicle with two suction lifters and with a second technician. .
• Depending on the equipment version, the following additional work must be performed. Refer to RECALIBRATE THE CAMERA .
• Required Tools and Materials for Removal and Installation. Refer to REQUIRED TOOLS AND MATERIALS FOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

Removing 

-- Insert a cutting guard from the :861 001A  inside between the cutting wire and trim panels.

-- Remove the left and right drip rail. Refer to DRIP RAIL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the plenum chamber cover. Refer to PLENUM CHAMBER COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the sun visors and the sun visor center support. Refer to OVERVIEW - SUN VISORS .

-- Remove the left and right A-pillar trim panels. Refer to A-PILLAR TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the front interior lamp/reading lamp. Refer to FRONT INTERIOR LAMP/READING LAMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the interior rearview mirror cover. Refer to INTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Disconnect the connectors -1 through 5-, if equipped.

-- Equipment versions with windshield defogger: disconnect the connector -1- and unclip the harness -2- for the windshield defogger from the bracket.

If the windshield is replaced, additionally install:

• The rain/light recognition sensor. Refer to RAIN/LIGHT RECOGNITION SENSOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
• The driver assistance systems front camera. Refer to DRIVER ASSISTANCE SYSTEMS FRONT CAMERA -R242-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
• Interior rearview mirror. Refer to INTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Insert the :VAS861 001/1A  in the awl -1-.

TIP:

To prevent any damage, cover the area -arrow- where the awl comes out at the body flange with adhesive tape.

-- Press the awl in this area from the inside outward through the adhesive bead and pull the cutting cord through toward the outside

-- Place the :VAS861 001/1A  all around under the windshield.

To insert the cutting cord under the cover profile, use the threading tool -1- from the :861 001A  .

-- Secure the outer end of the cutting cord on the right hinge for the hood.

-- Secure the removal device using the reel device -1- at the lower left on the inside of the window.

-- Insert the :VAS861 001/1A  in the reel device -arrow-.

-- Tension the cutting cord with the reel device.

-- Insert the cut out protection -2- from the :VAS861 001A  to protect the area between the :VAS861 001/1A  and instrument panel cover.

-- Cut free in the lower area of the windshield.

-- Offset the removal device -1- to the left upper edge of the windshield.

-- Cut the left area of the A-pillar by moving upward and along.

-- Insert the cut out protection -1- from the :VAS861 001A  to protect the area between the :VAS861 001/1A  and the headliner.

-- Cut free in the upper area of the windshield.

-- Lift the windshield off the vehicle with two suction lifters and with a second technician. 

Installing 

-- Prepare the undamaged glass window for installation. Refer to UNDAMAGED WINDOW GLASS, PREPARING FOR INSTALLATION .
