Steering Gear, Removing And Installing: Installing
Installation is the reverse of removal, with special attention to the following:
Coat the seal on the steering gear with lubricant such as soft soap before installing the steering gear.
After attaching steering gear to drive axle, make sure that seal on steering gear is positioned to mounting plate without kinks and opening to foot well is sealed correctly. Ingress of water and/or noises may be the result.
Make sure sealing surfaces are clean.
-- Position the steering gear -1- on the subframe.
- The steering gear threaded sleeves -2- must be inserted into the subframe holes -arrow-.
-- Position the steering gear bolts.
-- Install the subframe with the steering gear. Refer to SUBFRAME WITH STEERING GEAR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Make sure the ball joint boot is not damaged or twisted.
-- If the steering gear was removed and reinstalled, or if a new steering gear was installed, calibrate the Steering Angle Sensor -G85- by selecting the function "Basic setting" on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
- If a new steering gear was installed, the Power Steering Control Module -J500- must be adapted by selecting the function "Replace control module" on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
- If the steering gear was removed and reinstalled, a road test must be done to check the steering wheel position. If the steering wheel is crooked, then an axle alignment must be performed. Refer to VEHICLE ALIGNMENT .
- If a new steering gear was installed, an axle alignment must be performed. Refer to VEHICLE ALIGNMENT .
